But ended up on Running Down, due to my incompetence. This is a mixed bag from Rome and Sansepolcro.
This baby with a baby (and a cigarette) asked me for money for taking her photo (top). I gave her €3, and then she went around asking the rest of the group for more money. I felt so sad, and can't imagine how wealthy I looked to her with my giant camera. Through my awful Italian I found out the baby was 4 months old.
This cat is still sitting in front of the same restaurant in Sansepolcro as when Anthony and I were here 4 years ago. Unfortunately, I found out that may favorite Sansepolcro dog, Nayla, who would lay all day in the window of the travel agency, died two years ago. Below, Nayla from 2007.
It was nice of you to buy that young girl cigarettes.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't remember any cat.
My love, you do have a photo of that cat in one of your street scenes with the people going by. He is probably blurry. Maybe I imagined him.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think of it that way, but you are right. I guess I did buy her cigarettes.
great work with the camera.
ReplyDeleteOh, right! I think it is the same cat. http://picasaweb.google.com/anthony.corriveau/Panoramics#5496171148311956626
ReplyDeleteSame cat Anthony, and no matter what, don't argue stuff like this. Happy wife, happy life, that's what I always say.
ReplyDeleteIs the girl a gypsy? I have head horror stories about them in the train stations and major tourist spots. They always scout out tourists. They always come with babies and small children. One of my classmates whom I was studying in Italy at the time had a terrible experience with the. She got off the train station in Florence. She was all by herself. Then one of these teenagers/ babies holder came and then a few more of them and a group of small children came and just took every thing from her. Her camera, her purse, her necklace, her packback basically everything that they liked, except her clothing, in a matter of a minute and ran off.
ReplyDeleteIt's great that you are travelling in a group all the time, but please be careful.
Thanks Michele. We will be safe. What an awful story. There are a lot of "zingari" (gypsies) asking for money here in Florence and Rome. But this girl was on the bus on our way to Arezzo. She very well may have been a gypsy, but I think she was just opportunistic after she realized she had something I wanted (her picture). It made me sad because she was so young. I am pretty sure it was her baby...
ReplyDeleteAnd Neil, same cat. No question. Good advice. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWe have been following your photo blog and absolutely LOVE all the photos. We each have our favorites! I am so happy, despite what sounds like an awful commute, that you got to the leaning tower. I am disappointed that you did not get the shot of someone standing next to it acting like they are holding it up. You know that was on my must do list.
ReplyDeleteYes!!!! That is exactly what I was looking for!!! I have a new favorite!
ReplyDeleteShannon, I LOVE the image of the feet on the cobblestone!!! What beautiful shots!
ReplyDeleteThanks Maureen! Big compliment coming from you!!
